Getting to Kahului
Cheap Kahului flights from Australia require a stop in Honolulu where the flying time from Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney is approximately 9 hours. Hawaiian Airlines is the only airline with direct connections to Kahului from Australia. If departing from the U.S., direct flights are available from many west coast cities.
Airlines from Australia
Virgin Australia codeshare partner Hawaiian Airlines serves Kahului from Brisbane and Sydney with a stop in Honolulu. While Qantas and Jetstar offer flights to Honolulu they do not offer through connections to Kahului. Fiji Airways and Air New Zealand also have flights to Honolulu from Australia but do not serve Kahului.
Kahului International Airport (OGG)
Kahului Airport is the main airport for Maui and offers direct flight throughout the Hawaiian Islands as well as to many mainland U.S. cities along the west coast. The airport acts as a secondary hub for Hawaiian Airlines who offer international connections from their base at Honolulu. Rental car facilities are available at Kahului with all major car companies having a presence.
The magical island of Maui, with its warm, gentle breezes, giant surfer waves and long stretches of glistening beaches can only by outdone by its exotic mountains and lush rainforests. Cool waterfalls cascading into serene tropical pools seem days away from civilization. However remote it may feel, Kahului, Maui’s largest city is just miles away. The city of less than 30,000 people offers a laid back, inviting atmosphere and a welcoming touch to an island unsurpassed in beauty and peaceful coexistence with the earth.
The landscape is dramatic. High mountains and old volcano cores offer a glimpse at the island’s geology and how it was formed millions of years ago. While the last volcanic eruption on Maui was over two hundred years ago, there is still plenty of evidence to be seen of the violent and unstoppable force of lava fields blazing across the island. Much of the island however is covered in dense rainforest, surrounded by gorgeous beaches. Take a drive and discover a hidden cove and enjoy the swaying palm trees and fresh sea air.
